Independent front suspension can go anywhere a solid axle can go. However an IFC performs better on all other terrain. For increased flexibility and roll a smaller 29mm stabilizer bar war used to help the FJ Cruiser achieve an overall articulation of 489mm (19.25 inches). In an effort to improve travel, the upper A-arm was mounted high. This higher mount point increases the distance between the upper and lower A-arms and affords the IFS 200mm (7.88 inches) of travel. The greatest advantage an IFS has over a solid live axle, is its improved handling and steering characteristics when traveling at speed over rough terrain. The key lies in the IFS's ability to isolate shock input without transferring it to the opposite wheel. www.toyota.com
